You do realize that there are songs, should you admit to liking them, that are akin to wearing plaid shorts, dark socks and sandals, right?
Can I get an Amen here?
You feel me on this one right? Because I can hear the cogs grinding in your head as you try to think of which songs you like that fit this fashion faux paux. That your children would mock you for liking now, much less when we were their age or younger. You have a short list already don’t you?
Yeah, thought so. Here’s one of mine…
Joey Tempest was so *pretty*; prettier than Jon Bon Jovi, hell he was prettier than Madonna ever was. He was pouty, poofy and had a set of hair metal lungs like few others. He was well-coifed, probably with three or four cans of Aqua-Net daily, had great jewelry and was about as deep as a puddle after a spring rain. The girls loved him. I’m still not sure if I hated him or wanted to be him. At this point, I don’t care.
I loved this song. That keyboard riff alone is awesome, it begs to be played at sporting events the world over as time drips from the clock and the home team is winning. The guitar player doing his Eddie Van Halen lite solo, and Joey Tempest prancing around, pouting around, man this was Hair Metal at it’s best and worst.
I apologize to my daughter for embarrassing her by admitting publicly that this song is a guilty pleasure. While I will never do the dark socks and sandals thing, I figure this makes up for it.
See you Monday.
This made me smile so widely... There's also a story behind it for me. In the late 1980s, Greece managed to beat all odds and win the European Basketball Cup. My whole tiny country was feverish with joy and my father took his then-tiny daughter, plopped her on his shoulders, and joined the celebration in the streets. It was teeny-tiny Roxanne's first TV appearance too :) How can one not love this song?
I'm not sure why you feel guilty about this... The Final Countdown is a classic song that everyone enjoys.
It's not like you listed "The Right Stuff" by New Kids on the Block or something...
i've heard this song a jillion times without every knowing who was behind it. and lol! i, too, always thought it was a perfect sports song. :)
my biggest guilty pleasure is the backstreet boys "i want it that way". i always play it loud when it shows up on the radio. always.
